After a traumatic incident during his internship, young medical student James Hayman (Namir Smallwood) moves to a rural hospital for a fresh start. Noticing that James is anxious and struggling to relate to his patients, Dr. Harrison (stage and film veteran Michael Potts) suggests he take a course focused on good manners and building deeper relationships with his patients. Demons from James’ past begin to catch up with him when he is preoccupied with the case of a young asthmatic (Sidney Flanigan, NEVER SOMETIMES ALWAYS) with mysterious symptoms. His grip on reality begins to slip as his disturbing nightmares, anxiety-fueled speculations, and physical wounds collide with the harsh realities of the medical world. Director Alex Thompson assembles a strong cast of veteran character actors in his follow-up to SAINT FRANCES and prequel to THE LIGHT OF THE SPIRIT, in this unconventional, humanistic vision of the genre.
